Two outstanding performers in the 70s were Gerry Ward and Colin 'Paddy' Powell. Ward provided the measured passes for pacey winger Powell to destroy defences with his skill and speed.
They helped Barnet reach Wembley again, but the Bees were beaten 3-0 by Stafford Rangers in the FA Trophy final 1972. Sadly, Gerry, a true gentleman on and off the field, was only 57 when he died in 1994.
Former Northern Ireland and Arsenal keeper Jack McClelland, who played in that FA Trophy final, was another popular figure, who died at an even earlier age, in his 30s.
